The merciless hills of Supa Mama Savages Challenge 2017

What a great way to start the morning! Running, my new found love. It’s not always a great relationship! You can ask anyone during training, but the joy of finishing what you started is always worth it.

I cannot stress enough how great running as a member of a club like Stella is. It’s one of the best ways to enjoy the sport, make new friends, but also push yourself to the next level. It’s been an amazing journey for me of achieving weight goals and reaching running milestones. Doing it with people who love running means they will always push you to do your best.

The Supa Mama Savages Challenge is an amazing race. Whoever invented double lappers is a cruel human being; but worse is the person who decided Supa Mama 21km should be a double lapper. The race was perfect until you reached the 10km split and the friendly marshals start pointing you away from the finish point towards the 21km route! After surviving all the hills of the first 10km, it’s crazy that I was going to put my body through all that again. But, I had entered the race for a 21km and I was going to finish it. In my short running journey, I have discovered that my body can do anything, I just need to get my mind in the right space.

The great thing about being a novice runner, is that every finish is a celebration. After the race you always have this amazing thought….I can’t believe I did it! It was a challenging race but I would encourage everyone to try it next year.
